Drios is a smart base for couples who want comfort, privacy, and quick access to southern coast beaches.
The best family beach in Paros depends on the day, not on a universal ranking. Wind and waves, shade, access, facilities and each swimmer’s confidence can make a beach suitable for one family and a poor choice for another. Use this guide to build a shortlist, then check conditions again before you leave.
Quick decision: start with two possible beaches on different parts of the island, check the forecast and local information that morning, and choose the option that suits the least confident swimmer in your group. Never treat calm-looking water, a shallow edge or an organised section as a guarantee of safety.

What makes a Paros beach work for your family?
Begin with your family’s real needs rather than the most photographed beach. A parent travelling with a baby may prioritise reliable shade and a short walk from the car. A family with older, confident swimmers may care more about space, watersports or nearby food. A grandparent or anyone with limited mobility may need an even route with minimal steps and loose sand.
Wind and sea: compare the forecast with what you can see on arrival. Conditions can change during the day.
Shade and heat: natural shade is limited at many Cycladic beaches. Bring your own protection and do not assume umbrellas will be available.
Entry and seabed: sand, pebbles, rocks and depth can vary within the same beach. Check the exact entry point before children go in.
Access: look at the final walk, steps, heat, traffic and the effort of carrying a pushchair or beach equipment.

Golden Beach can be convenient for families staying in Drios because it avoids a long transfer across the island. Its open setting also means wind and watersports activity can be important parts of the day’s decision. Choose a clearly separated swimming area, supervise children within reach and move to your alternative plan if the sea is not suitable for your group.
Do not rely on a listing that says a beach is “calm” or “family friendly”. Look at the water when you arrive, ask the lifeguard where one is present, and follow posted instructions. If a child is tired, cold, anxious or struggling with the entry, leave the water rather than trying to complete a planned beach day.
Logaras and Piso Livadi
Logaras and Piso Livadi can be paired as a flexible east-coast outing. Logaras offers a longer beach setting, while Piso Livadi can be useful for a walk or meal when the group wants a shorter stop. That flexibility matters with children: the best plan may be the one that lets you change pace without losing the whole day.
Keep children away from working harbour edges and boat movement, and use only areas where swimming is permitted. Seasonal traffic and parking pressure can change, so leave time for the final walk and never block access routes.
Kolymbithres and a north-coast day
Kolymbithres is known for granite formations and a series of small coves. The landscape is attractive, but separate coves can differ in space, entry and depth. Rocks may be hot or slippery, and a popular cove can fill quickly. Water shoes may help some visitors, but they do not replace careful footing and close supervision.
A trip north is easier when you also decide in advance what you will do if the beach is too busy or conditions are unsuitable. A short harbour walk in Naoussa can be an alternative, but check transport and parking before committing to the evening. Why Drios is a strong base
Drios combines proximity to Golden Beach with a more relaxed local rhythm. This balance is ideal for couples and families who want sea, comfort, and less noise.

During the summer months, the island fills with visitors from Greece and abroad, who all enjoy Paros’ pebbled beaches, as well as drinks and meals at traditional restaurants.
By comparison, Paros, during Easter, is a more serene place, more detached from cosmopolitan ways. Easter celebrations are bright, spirited and lengthy all over the island, but it would not be an exaggeration to say that these traditions and customs are most intense, as experiences, at Paros’ northern villages. Holy Week is a special time to be in traditional Marpissa, beautiful & quiet Drios, Lefkes and Aspro Chorio.
Marpissa, is very close to the villages Piso Livadi and Drios. Not only there, but in all churches of the island too, every Easter Thursday, the women head up to the Metropolitan Cathedral, where they spend the night reverently decorating the Epitaphios in preparation for the next day’s solemn Good Friday funerary procession. In the afternoon of the same day, the inhabitants of the island visiting the churches and passing under the Epitaphs.
On Good Friday’s evening Epitaphios pass through the lifelike scenes presenting the Passion of Christ, which are not only presented in Marpissa, but neighbouring villages too, with children as the protagonists.
Next morning, on Easter Saturday, Marpissa maintains an early, initial Resurrection custom, for which young girls, dressed as angels, stand before village buildings and houses, creating a heavenly setting.
Finally, on Easter Sunday, you can visit Naoussa, where the Second Resurrection is celebrated followed by a feast in Naoussa square with traditional dances and treats. At the same time, in the port of Naoussa there is live music until the evening!
Parikia, the capital of Paros with the passenger and the commercial port and the Mill, which is the trademark of the village, is located at the island’s bay. There are beautiful settlements in Parikia, however Parikia itself will also fascinate you if you take a walk around its alleys. Ekatontapiliani and the pinewood next to it, the Venetian castle in the old market, the church of Agios Constantinos (St. Constantine), the hill of Agia Anna (St. Anna) with its two mills, which are a trademark of Paros, the perennial palm trees on the street along the coast (Giannis Parios st.) and all kinds of stores attract the visitors.

The Valley of the Butterflies, a unique natural site on Paros comprises a rare biotope for Jersey Tiger Moth butterflies, which can be seen perched in large numbers on the tree trunks. The butterflies of Paros are known for their wonderful coloring (brown-black with yellowish extremities and bright red wings) and appear from late May to late July, disappear in August and reappear in September. The disappearance is due to the females seeking places to lay their eggs and die.
